Hello! I am James Ting. I am a fourth-year Computer Science student at McGill University, and I am looking to building a career in software development with a focus in cloud computing.

From internships to research projects, I am always looking for opportunities to learn more about software, and I look forward to seeing what the future brings.

I am excited to announce that I have accepted a full-time offer as a Software Development Engineer at Amazon, working on the AWS CloudFormation team. This will give me valuable experience in building tools that run the world's internet and in the unique challenges of cloud computing.

During my time growing up in Vancouver, I learned French in school, English out of school, and Cantonese at home, becoming fluent in all three. My multicultural heritage makes me feel equally at home in the cramped streets of Hong Kong and the top of Mont-Royal and gives me a unique cultural perspective on life

Skills

Programming Languages

One of my own principles is that there is always something to learn. During the course of my education and my personal projects, I have learned multiple languages both in and outside of the classroom. I have built experience working with JavaJavaScript, Python, and C.

Technologies

Using modern technologies is a critical part of the modern software development cycle. Through my formal education and personal projects, I have leveraged various technologies to speed up development and build modular, maintainable code bases. Some of the libraries/technologies that I have worked with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Jest, ReactJS, NodeJS and TensorFlow

Hobbies

One of my hobbies is aviation! I hold a valid Private Pilot License, with Night and Multi-Engine endorsements. With over 100 hours in the air on aircraft ranging from a tiny single-engine Cessna 152, to a six-seater twin-engine Piper Seneca, a frequent pass time of mine is to fly somewhere for lunch, and be home in time for dinner (when the weather cooperates).

Personal Projects

Due to the rapid pace of technology, I find that my formal education, while critical in developing fundamentals, lacks the flexibility to adapt to new and upcoming technologies. Therefore, I supplement my learning with personal projects that give me wider breadth of knowledge and experience.

I encourage you to check out my personal projects to see what I have learned!
